Ease of Use

Sending a fax using Nextiva's online interface is somewhat more complicated than with some of the other providers in that it makes sending a fax a multi-step and multi-page experience. For example, in order to use their "filters" feature, a customer must go through an extra page in order to send a fax, whether they want to use the filters or not. Nextiva also takes a different approach to attaching files. Instead of attaching a file on the page where other information is entered, a customer must go to a second page to attach the file. Sending a fax with Nextiva's online interface is still quite simple but it took us a bit more time than some of the other providers.

Nextiva provides a 'Quick Start Guide' that walks you through the process of using their virtual fax system.

Customer Support

Nextiva offers phone support from 8AM to 8PM EST, seven days a week, as well as email support. In addition, Nextiva has a support section on their website with information on sending and receiving faxes as well as other available features. They also offer a 3 minute tutorial on sending and receiving faxes that covers most of what you'll need to know to get started quickly.

They do not offer any help inside their online interface but they do have a support section on their website with information on sending and receiving faxes as well as other available features. They also offer a 3 minute tutorial on sending and receiving faxes that covers most of what you'll need to know to get started quickly.

We called and emailed Nextiva 3 times to gauge their responsiveness and the accuracy of those responses. Note the results in the table below.

Fax Transmission Speed

We sent five faxes using Nextiva's online service at random times of the day to find out how long it would take for each fax to reach its destination. We were impressed that Nextiva's average transmission time was 30% faster than the transmission times recorded in trials of other online fax providers.

Transferring Existing Fax Numbers

A significant advantage of Nextiva is that they don't charge any fees for transferring your existing number to a Nextiva virtual fax number. Nextiva has no step-by-step instructions on its user interface or website for transferring your existing fax number to the online service. It does however, have some information in the "Knowledgebase" section of the website.

In the "Knowledgebase" section, you'll find 9 short articles describing topics such as: what a Letter of Authorization is, how long it will take to port a number, how you'll know when your number has been transferred and other useful notes.

To get step-by-step instructions, as well as the Letter of Authorization sheet that needs to be filled out in order to accomplish the transfer, you'll need to email Nextiva. When they sent us the instructions, they came with an example sheet.
