Consumer-Rankings Goes to the Polls!

Obviously we all have a stake in tomorrow’s elections: As young people, senior-citizens, singles, parents, spouses, employers, employees and (you guessed it) consumers. Does that mean that we here at Consumer-Rankings.com are going to tell you who to vote for? Nope. Does it mean that we have an opinion about who is best for us as consumers? Not a clue.

But if you’re a smart consumer you can probably figure it out on your own. Choosing who to vote for follows a lot of the rules you already know from being a savvy shopper:

1. Do Your Research

When you’re shopping for a laptop, you don’t just buy something because it’s the version your best friend has or because it’s the one everyone in your office seems to be talking about. Although those people probably share some of your computer needs, you still check out the stats, read reviews, compare features and look for the best prices. You should do the same before you vote. Ignore pressure from your family and friends and look at each candidate more carefully. Watch the debates online if you missed seeing the live broadcast, check out each candidate’s voting record and find out what their officially platforms say (even if you don’t think they’ll actually be following them).

2. Remember Your Priorities

Remember that time you were Christmas shopping and got swept off your feet by the beauty of the cashmere sweater you bought for your sister, only to realize that you forgot to check if they had it in the right size? The same thing can happen when you’re voting. You may agree wholeheartedly with a candidate’s foreign policy but abhor his economic plan and ideas for the education system. There’s no perfect candidate so make sure that you’ve figured out which issues are the most important to you and which you’re willing to compromise on.

3. Don’t Give In To Buyer’s Remorse

Sorry, but there’s no return policy on your vote. You can’t even exchange it for store credit. On the other hand, you’ll get another chance in four years. Our government’s system of checks and balances makes it pretty hard for a single president to sink the country into a devastating apocalypse without outside forces being hard at work and you’ll never know if the other guy could have done any better. So once you’ve voted, move on.
